Is Jonah and the Fish a literal, historical account?

This may be a whale of a tale but it is far from a made up story designed only to illustrate a truth.

Q: Can the miracles contained in this account be real?

Q: Should we interpret them literally or metaphorically?

There are two irrefutable truths which prove this account of the Prophet Jonah is actual, historical fact and not allegory to be interpreted figuratively.

1. Jonah is mentioned in the book of 2 Kings 14:25

2Ki 14:25 He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spoke by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gath-hepher.

Jonah is given a home town, and is confirmed the same Jonah in the book of Jonah identified by being 'the son of Amittai" He is also confirmed as a prophet.

Is Jesus a deceiver? How can any believer claim our Lord a liar?

2. Jesus confirms that Jonah is a real person, who preached a real message to the real city of Nineveh. He also confirmed that Jonah was in the belly of the fish literally for 3 days and compared it to his up and coming time of dying on the cross and being in the grave 3 days in Mat 12:40-41

This is no made up allegorical story with some metaphoric truth, this is a real live documentary of a man whom God miraculously delivered into and then out of the belly of a giant fish for being disobedient to the command he gave him. This is the same God who gave his only begotten Son that whosoever should believe on him, should not perish. Jesus is real! Jesus died on the cross a real death! Jesus arose on the 3rd day in a real body, the same body he died in. Jesus appeared to many, was glorified and taken up to heaven in plain sight. No metaphoric truth here, just the plain, hard, cold facts of a Man/God who loved so much he gave himself as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. Who are you going to believe in?  Man's total inability to comprehend a God who performs miracles for his own people?  Or Jesus Christ himself who claimed in 3 different Gospels Jonah to be a real prophet who spent 3 real days in the belly of a real fish?  I am siding with Jesus Christ, where do you stand?
